Organization:
The Northeast Addiction and Behavioral Health Business Consortium (NABHBC) was created to facilitate and manage collaborative business ventures among the northeast agencies, hospitals, and organizations that are actively involved in addiction prevention, treatment, recovery and behavioral health.

NABHBC’s primary goal is to help support the northeast addiction and behavioral health business community by saving money, time, and effort. NABHBC is dedicated to delivering information that will help the ABH community succeed now and in the future.

Challenge:
College Benefits Publishing and College Benefits Group were contracted initially to create, build, and manage a consortial member benefits model for the New York Association for Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Providers (ASAP). The consortial model consists of an administrative, database management, and communications platform to deliver important ASAP member benefits.

The member services being developed and established on the platform include very robust benefits that help members in their day-to-day business challenges, such as a workers’ compensation safety group, long-term care insurance, disability insurance, and group purchasing of products and services.

Through the process of building the platform it became apparent that the consortial member benefits model needed to go beyond New York State to the entire northeast, because many other addiction and behavioral health organizations in the northeast want to click into the consortial model to save their members money, time, and effort. Also, a larger group would create better leverage to negotiate with vendors that would deliver enhanced benefits at lower costs.

Solution:
The solution was to create a centralized conduit for the northeast addiction and behavioral health business community. The northeast consortial benefits model needed to be created so that the group purchasing contracts and insurance and employee benefits contracts could be applied to a 501 (c) 3. In turn the contracts would be utilized by any member organization that reflects the centralized mission of the northeast addiction and behavioral health business community.

Result:
The result was to create the northeast addiction and behavioral health business consortium (NABHBC). NABHBC is a 501 (c) 3 that acts as a collaborative delivery tool for addiction and behavioral health business information and for member benefits that are based on a group purchasing model, saving organizations money, time, and effort.
